Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQ's) and Modern Apprenticeships

Brian Williams

We offer a range of land-based SVQs at Levels 2 and 3. These qualifications are usually undertaken on a part-time basis, or as a full time work-based programme. Candidates must be employed within the industry sector they are studying as they are required to undertake practical work related tasks and acquire knowledge & understanding specific to their chosen SVQ route.

Candidates who meet specific SDS criteria may undertake a Modern Apprenticeship alongside the SVQ Level 2 and 3 qualifications.  The Modern Apprenticeship includes the training & successful completion of 2 industry specific training courses, one of which must be the Health & Safety Executive 1-day Emergency First Aid course, the other a LANTRA Sector Skills Council certificated course, eg. Abrasive Wheels Operation, Tractor Operation, Brush-cutter & Trimmer Operation or All Terrain Vehicle Operation.   The college is contracted by Skills Development Scotland to deliver Modern Apprenticeship training. Supported Training: If your company is looking to offer a young person an apprenticeship or other training opportunity come and talk to us and we will help you find the most appropriate training solution for your business needs. Subject to SDS criteria, the training element of the Modern Apprenticeship programme may be supported by SDS funding.
