A guide to understanding Education Maintenance Allowances
One of the most important issues you will have to consider when coming to College is how you are going to cope financially, hopefully this will help you to understand the funding available to you and hopefully make your decision an easy one.
Since 2005 students have been receiving Education Maintenance Allowances, full details are in the leaflet attached.
To be eligible for an EMA you must also have signed a Learning Agreement (LA). This is you committing to a plan of study that you are agreeing to follow, your LA must also be signed by your Course Tutor, who will give you the form in the first instance. No payments can be made to your bank account unless this Agreement is completed.
The EMA's are means tested and depend totally on how much income comes in to the home where you stay.
