Student Support Services
Here at Oatridge we believe that all students should have access to adequate and appropriate learning opportunities that match their needs, aspirations and abilities. Our trained staff can meet your specific learning needs and support you so that you realise your full potential.
Whether you are on a full-time or part-time course we offer help in the development of the skills needed to be successful in both education and employment. These include communication, numeracy and study skills, such as note taking, research skills and report writing. Students with specific learning difficulties can get specialist help. This includes aspects of literacy and numeracy connected with sight, hearing, and speech. Advice and counselling is available to help students with emotional and pastoral problems.
A Problem?
Apart from teaching support, advice and counselling, our help can be on a purely practical level, such as arranging for you to borrow equipment essential to your course.
Our counselling service is confidential and is concerned with the pastoral needs and social and academic problems that might arise during a course of study.
Student Services will be able to assist with applications for financial support.
Medical
If you are going to be resident on campus for the duration of your course you must register with the College Doctor
Strathbrock Partnership Centre
189a West Main Street, Broxburn

prior to the commencement of your course in September. Failure to do so may result in a delay in receiving medical attention.
Please bring your medical card with you on enrolment day. If you have not already been vaccinated, it is recommended that you obtain protection against Tetanus and Meningitis before commencement of your course.
Career Guidance
As a student there are plenty of opportunities to seek and get advice on progression on completion of your course. Your first point of contact would normally be your course tutor, but specialist advice is always available through Careers Scotland which has a base within the Resource Centre.
Travelling to and from Oatridge
The College provides a transport service between the campus and Edinburgh in addition to buses to Linlithgow Railway Station and Livingston Centre/Uphall Station. The service is free to students on Certificate level courses who have applied for Bursary or Education Maintenance support. Other students have to contribute to the cost.
Residential Accommodation
Purpose built student accommodation is available for those students who wish to live on campus. Clyde, Forth and Tay Residences provide catered accommodation and en-suite self-catering facilities are available in Cromarty, Lorn, Moray and Solway Residences.
Grants, Bursaries & Funding
If you are going to study an HNC or HND full-time programme you may be eligible for funding from the Student Award Agency for Scotland (SAAS). When studying a Certificate full-time programme you may be eligible for Bursary or Education Maintenance support. Please see separate sections on funding & EMAs. If you are on a part-time programme and receiving a means tested benefit, you may be eligible to have your tuition fee waived. An Individual Learning Account may be used towards the cost of tuition fees on certain courses.
Child Care
The College Child Care Fund helps full-time and part-time students with child care costs. Financial support is provided towards the cost of a nursery place, the cost of a registered childminder or the cost of after school care.
