Certificate in Agriculture (SCQF Level 5/6)

Overview:

This provides sound practical experience together with the technical knowledge necessary for those who have chosen agriculture as a career.

What's involved?:

Management of Soils for Growing Crops,
Grass & Cereal Crop Production,
Grass & Cereal Crop Harvesting & Storage,
Sheep, Pig, Beef, Suckled Calf Production,
Calf Rearing, Livestock Feeding & Reproduction,
Tractor Maintenance and Operation,
Machinery use in Producing,
Growing and Harvesting Crops,
Estate Work (fences, gates, water supplies,
troughs & field drains),
Conservation on Farms,
Information Technology & Numeracy.

Duration:

1 academic year. Starts in September.

Career opportunities:

Depending on experience and ability, student may gain a job as a Stock-Person, Tractor Operator or General Farm Worker. Alternatively, it may be a way to gaining further training and experience in the industry.

Entry requirements:

Core Skills at Access Level3 or above. This requirement can
be tested at interview. A keen interest in the subject is
essential. Practical agricultural experience is advantageous
but not essential.

Further study:

HNC Agriculture on successful completion of all Certificate
level units and a successful interview.
