SVQ Level 2 in Mixed Farming
This part time course is assessed in your place of work by Oatridge College assessors and supported with up to 2 weeks in College.
The programme will assess your practical skills and update your technical knowledge in a range of general agricultural skills.
The course consists of 10 units and covers:
D9H2 04 - Prepare & Cultivate Sites for Planting Crops.
Covers clearing fields and cultivations used before sowing.
D9J9 04 - Maintain the Healthy Performance of Livestock.
Covers the cause, prevention and treatment of diseases.
D9AJ 04 - Monitor and Maintain Health and Safety.
Assessing risks to health of the farm.
D9AK 04 - Develop Personal Performance & Maintain Relationships - Covers working with other people and promoting good relationships.
B5PF 04 - Maintain Communications & Records.
Systems used to record informations on the farm. Requesting and providing information.
B5L2 04 - Prepare and Operate a Tractor with Attachments.
The servicing, maintenance and use of vehicles and equipment.
D9M7 04 - Provide Feed & Water to Livestock.
Covers the preparation & feeding or rations to livestock & also checks required for the water supply.
B5L6 04 - Control the Movement of Livestock.
Covers controls used when moving livestock & methods of restraining livestock for checking & treatments.
B5L7 04 - Monitor & Maintain the Healthy Growth of Extensive Crops.
Covers the checks for & identifications of weeds, pests, diseases and disorders in crops.
B5N7 04 - Maintain & Repair Structures and Surfaces.
Covers the maintenance and repair of drains, fences, sheds, roads, paths etc.

Sound educational ability consistent with the demands of the course
Progression
To SVQ Level 3 in Mixed Farming or full time Certificate in Agriculture
Additional information
A workplace is required as a part of this training and College attendance is by block release. It is a means of gaining work experience prior to higher level courses. Eligible students may be funded for this course.
The completion of a work-based portfolio is an integral part of the course.
