SVQ Level 3 & MA in Mixed Farming
This is a more advanced programme of SQA units, but follows a similar pattern to Level 2 and covers the implementation and monitoring of growth, development, production and breeding systems together with the establishment, maintenance, harvesting and storage of grass and fodder crops.
The course consists of 10 units and covers:
D9H5 04 - Prepare, Monitor & Cultivate Sites for Planting Crops - Clearing fields and the cultivations used before sowing.
B5P4 04 - Promote & Maintain the Healthy Performance of Livestock - Covers the cause, prevention and treatment of diseases.
D9CG 04 - Promote, Monitor & Maintain Health, Safety & Security - Assessing risks to health of the farm.
D9AK 04 - Develop Personal Performance & Maintain Relationships - Covers working with other people and promoting good relationships.
B5MS 04 - Receive, Transmit & Store Information in the Workplace - Systems used to record information on the farm. Requesting and providing information.
B5L2 04 - Prepare and Operate a Tractor with Attachments - The servicing, maintenance and use of vehicles and equipment.
D9JF 04 - Monitor, Maintain & Evaluate the Provision of Feed & Water to Livestock - Covers the preparation & feeding or rations to livestock & also checks required for the water supply.
D9NY 04 - Monitor & Maintain Livestock During & After Parturition - Covers checks & controls used when livestock are giving birth (including before and after)
B5PA 04 - Promote, Monitor & Maintain the Healthy Growth of Crops - Covers the checks for & identifications of weeds, pests, diseases and disorders in crops.
B5LA 04 - Construct & Maintain Structures & Surfaces - Covers the construction & maintenance of new drains, fences, sheds, roads, paths etc.
Entry requirements
Sound educational ability consistent with the demands of the course or SVQ Level 2.

Additional information
A workplace is required as a part of this training and College attendance is by block release. It is a means of gaining work experience prior to higher level courses. Eligible candidates may be funded for this course. Suitable students will also undertake the Lantra Modern Apprenticeship.
The completion of a work-based portfolio is an integral part of the course.
