SVQ Level 2 in Animal Care (SCQF Level 5)

Mode of attendance:

Most of the learning and assessment is completed in the workplace with no need for any college attendance (unless there is a part of the qualification that you are unableto complete in your particular workplace).

Overview:

This qualification is a work based qualification for those employed in an animal care industry such as a boarding kennel, cattery, dog grooming parlour or animal welfare centre. It is aimed at those who are new to the industry.

Provide Exercise Opportunities for Animals,
Prepare and Bathe Dogs,
Establish and Maintain Animals within their
Accommodation, Control and Restrain Animals,
Promote and Maintain the Health and Well-Being
of Animals,
Ensure Your Own Actions Reduce Risks to Health
And Safety,
Develop Personal Performance and
Maintain Working Relationships,
Receive, Transmit And Store Information within
the Workplace, Care and Monitor the Behaviour
of Visitors to Sites,
Receive Goods and Materials in a Retail Environment

Duration:

1 academic year. Flexible starting date

Career opportunities:

The SVQ 2 will developyour skills to work in a wide variety of small animal related industries including pet shops, kennels, grooming establishments, animal welfare entres and pet zoos.

Entry requirements:

To be employed in the animal care industry.

Further study:

On successful completion of this course and having obtained Intermediate 2 Communication and Intermediate 1 Numeracy (or equivalent),you will be eligible to apply for an HNC in Animal Care.
