Overview:
This is an introductory course for those wanting experience
in a range of practical skills, such as habitat management,
fencing and tractor driving, and to build up their knowledge
and understanding of countryside management.

Structures and Surfaces,
Countryside Recreation and Access,
Identification Skills and Ecology,
Local Investigations,
Geology and Geomorphology: An Introduction,
Tractor Operations 1,
Practical Habitat Management,
Paths, Fence Constructions,
Drystone Dyking,
Health and Saftety,
Communications,
Information Technology,
1st Aid at Work,
Working as a Volunteer in the Environment,
Work Experience.
Duration:
1 academic year. Starts in September.
Career opportunities:
The majority of our certificate students progress to the
HNC in Countryside and Environmental Management
but some use the experiences they have gained at
Oatridge to progress to related courses such as game
keeping or outdoor education.
Entry requirements:
Essential - Core Skills at Access level 3 or above.
This requirement can be tested at interview.
Desirable - You should be hard working and
enthusiastic and be prepared to get involved
in all aspects of the course both practical and
classroom based. An interest in subject areas
such as geography, environmental studies
and history would be a good starting point for
this course.
Further study:
Progression to HNC is at the discretion of the College.
