Most landbased industries involve the use of machinery and depend on it remaining in good working order: this is the challenge facing the agricultural and horticultural engineer.

Students in new workshop

Today's engineer has to be self-motivated and highly trained in order to meet the demands of working with modern tractors, machines and equipment, and must have strong analytical skills and an innovative approach to problem solving.

At Oatridge College we have invested heavily in new engineering workshops, which include welding and fabrication areas, providing our students with the best possible learning environment. We aim to become the focus for all landbased engineering training in Scotland and are
working closely with manufacturers and distributors to achieve that ambition. Landbased engineering is a career for anyone with an interest in machines and how they work, an urge to learn practical skills and increasingly, a fascination with new technology.

At Oatridge we achieve a fine balance between providing hands-on experience and theory. Our new workshops are well equipped, have modern test rigs and a range of up-to-date tractors and other machinery on which our students can hone their skills and increase their technical knowledge for fault finding, diagnostics, repair and maintenance.

Our growing links with manufacturers and distributors means that machinery is being constantly updated and replaced. We are in touch with the education and training needs of employers.
