NC in Horticulture & Garden Design (SCQF Level 5/6)

Overview:

The course provides sound practical skills and technical knowledge for students aiming to take up positions of responsibility in commercial nurseries, local authorities, landscaping firms and private gardens. It is ideal for anyone with some industry experience, wishing to enhance and broaden their experience, or for those planning a career change.

Soft Landscaping - General & Specialist Planting,
Soft Landscaping ; Trees & Shrubs,
Small Engine Powered Machine Operations,
Home and allotment Gardening,
Plant Display, Pot Plant Production,
Estate Maintenance,
Propagation by Seed and Vegetative Means,
Landscape Construction,
Plant Structure and Function,
Communication, Information Technology.

Duration:

1 academic year; 3 days per week. Starts in September.

Career opportunities:

Employment in Local Authorities, Estates, Garden Centres, Nurseries, Landscaping Companies and Self-employment.

Entry requirements:

Communications and Numeracy at Intermediate 1 as a minimum. This requirement can be tested at interview. 3 Standard Grades which should include English and Maths.

Enthusiastic, hard working, prepared to get involved in all aspects of the course both practical and classroom based. Progression from Certificate in Landbased Studies.

Further study:

To full-time or part-time HNC Horticulture or HNC Landscape Management
