Certificate in Landscape Construction & Design (SCQF Level 5/6)

for National Certificate Status)

Overview:

The course provides sound practical experience in a wide range
of landscaping skills together with the knowledge of construction
principles and their application. It is ideal for anyone with some
industry experience, wishing to enhance and broaden their
experience, or for those planning a career change.

Soils - Structure and Function,
Plant Husbandry - Common Disorders,
Tree and Shrub Planting,
Hand Tools in Horticulture,
Introduction to Lawns and Lawn Care,
Plant Identification,
Soft Landscaping - Specialist Planting,
Soft Landscaping; Trees and Shrubs,
Right Plant: Right Place,
Small Engine Powered Machine Operations,
Tractor Operations,
Machinery Maintenance and use of Basic Equipment,
Bricklaying Introduction,
Stone and Brick Work,
Fencing, Surveying,
Paving and Hard Surfaces,
Communication,
Information Technology.

Duration:

1 academic year; 3 days per week. Starts in September.

Career opportunities:

Employment in Local Authorities, Estates, Garden Centres,
Nurseries, Landscaping Companies and Self-employment.

Entry requirements:

Communications and Numeracy at Intermediate 1 as a minimum.
This requirement can be tested at interview. 3 Standard Grades
which should include English and Maths.
Enthusiastic, hard working, prepared to get involved in all aspects
of the course both practical and classroom based.
Progression from Certificate in Landbased Studies.

Further study:

To full or part time HNC Horticulture or HNC Landscape Management.
