Location and Local Area
The College is situated in the rolling countryside of West Lothian, only 8 kilometres (5 miles) from Linlithgow 9 kilometres (6 miles) from Livingston and only 24 km (15 miles) from capital city of Edinburgh.
West Lothian' has a rich heritage that still survives to the present day and within a few kilometres you could visit historical sites that stretch from the Neolithic period (Cairnpapple Hill), to the Antonine Wall, the very northern limit of the Roman Empire, to the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots (Linlithgow Palace) or you can visit the finest of stately homes, in Scotland such as Hopetoun House, and old castles (Blackness, Edinburgh and Stirling) that trace their establishment back to ancient times.
The local area was very influential in the industrial development of Scotland and our industrial heritage is exhibited not only in our unique landscapes, but also though a range of museums and visitor attractions.
If the natural world is more your thing, you'll find a huge variety of flora and fauna in our local Country Parks, the vast Central Scotland Forest and the breezy peaks of the Bathgate Hills. Scotland's first National Park is less than an hours drive north and there you can spend weekends camping, fishing and enjoying a range of water sports on the freshwater lochs (lakes).
Edinburgh is thought of as one of the most desirable cities in the world. Its setting is beautiful being built on a series of extinct volcanoes and rocky crags, with the sheltered shoreline of the Firth of Forth to the north. The Castle dominates the city-centre skyline and from its walls you can look down on historic medieval lanes as well as the modern, dynamic capital where international festivals attract the world's leading performers, the galleries display cutting-edge art, and bars, restaurants and clubs create a lively, cosmopolitan atmosphere with a distinctly Scottish twist.
We admit that Scotland does not rank as the driest or the sunniest place in the world but our weather is never really extreme: remember we are on the same latitude as Moscow and southern Alaska!
