Studying in Scotland
Many students decide to come to come to Scotland to study, at the current time it is estimated that 20% of students at Scottish Colleges and Universities come from other countries. We want to encourage more students to come to Scotland to study and with the Scottish Government's Fresh Talent Working Scheme now firmly in place, qualified students can stay in Scotland for two years to gain valuable work experience. Aimed at non-EEA students, who graduate from a Scottish college or university with an HND or higher level qualification, graduates can apply to the scheme for a visa extension for the purpose of finding employment in Scotland. More information about the Fresh Talent Working Scheme is available from scotlandistheplace.com In this way Scotland can provide you with qualifications that have global recognition and standing, and also your first foothold on the employment and career ladder.

Scotland is an exciting place to be right now. We have a strong and growing economy, and have recently won the titles UK and European Region of the Future. We are also on the world stage as an international venue, hosting the world's biggest arts festival every summer, as well as many other entertainment and sporting events. Add to this a lively social scene with buzzing cosmopolitan cities featuring a huge selection of bars, clubs, cafes and restaurants offering cuisine from all around the world.
Scotland's Colleges offer international students a wealth of possibilities. Not only will you find a wide range of subjects at various levels but also qualifications ranging from basic access courses to advanced professional development courses called Higher National Certificates and Diplomas, or HNCs and HNDs, all delivered in small classes with a friendly atmosphere. Many colleges, like Oatridge College offer clear progression routes onto university level study, so a course at college could be your first step towards a degree. Our strong vocational approach creates courses that offer hands-on practical training either in the workplace or classroom, and we have excellent links with employers and professional organisations. This means you have the skills, knowledge, experience and a network of contact by the time you graduate - helping you to get a head start in your career.
Scotland is a very compact country, so it is easy to get to and to get around. There are many international flights direct to Scotland's four international airports. Or you can choose to fly to London and catch a short connecting flight, train or bus from there. We have six major cities, all within easy reach of each other and the stunning, often wild and always varied Scottish countryside. Glasgow and Edinburgh are only one hour apart by road, less by train. There are good road, rail, bus and air links throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK.
