A student team from Outridge College dug, planted and built for victory at the UKSkills landscaping competition at Malvern in September 2009. recording the highest scores in the advanced section, after three days of gruelling work to create a 7x7 metre garden against 38 other teams from all over the country.
Colin Smith and Petri Jacobs, coached by lecturer Brian Miller, thought they had done enough to be declared Britain's young Champion Landscapers, but because of the scoring system they had to settle for the title of joint winners. Earlier in the month fellow students Scott Cousins and Daniel Scott won the intermediate final, held in Windsor.
